EDUCATION AWARD - NIROOPMABEN J. BHAKTA
MEMORIAL FUND 2017

A PRIZE OF £601 FOR THE WINNING ENTRY ON

“THE IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATION” OR “WHY IS COMMUNITY IMPORTANT TODAY”

YOUR ENTRY CAN BE IN ANY OF THE FOLLOWING MEDIA: A 500 WORD ESSAY, VIDEO, POSTER, ARTWORK, POEM, MUSIC COMPOSITION OR ANY MULTI-MEDIA PRESENTATION.

The winning entry will receive an award certificate and £601 in vouchers or cash (subject to parental approval for under 16s). 

The entries will be judged by the Bhakta Samaj Joint Committee members and a member of Niroopmaben’s family. 

Niroopmaben Bhakta devoted a significant part of her life in service of the community. Niroopmaben taught at the Gujarati School and joined various cultural and religious activities such as bhajans, choreographed plays, taught Indian dance and assisted in all social activities. She spoke several languages, and was passionate about drama, cooking and music. Through arts and crafts, the children she taught Hindu mythology. She was the first and only woman President of the UK Bhakta Samaj in the 1980's breaking down stereotypes of what women could achieve. Many still recall how she engaged the youth in sports days, fancy dress competitions and Garba. Her message was about inclusivity and sharing knowledge to ensure the Samaj and Hindu teachings prevailed.

01/05/1926 - 05/08/2017
He passed away at 05:19 on Saturday 5th August 2017 peacefully in his sleep.
